Dr Nimai Charan Panda To Receive Kalinga Samman 2019

Bhubaneswar: Eminent biochemistry professor, educationist, medical administrator and researcher, Dr Nimai Charan Panda will get the Kalinga Samman for the year 2019 for his efforts to popularize science.
The Kalinga Foundation Trust announced the names of the recipients of the award for the years 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 on Saturday.
Panda is a science writer of repute both in Odia and English. He was the Principal of SCB Medical College in Cuttack and Director of Medical Education and Research. He was also president of the Odisha Bigyan Prachar Samiti, Cuttack and received an Honorary Doctorate from Utkal University for his outstanding contribution to Health Sciences.
Eminent radiologist and researcher, Dr Birendra Kishore Das has been selected to receive the award for the year 2018. Das is the Director and Chief of Nuclear Medicine, Utkal Institute of Medical Science in Bhubaneswar. He has written many books to popularise Health Sciences both in Odia and English.

For the year 2017, eminent Physicist and science writer Dr Jnanadev Moharana will receive the award. He is a fellow of many scientific bodies and has contributed immensely for the cause of popularization of science.

Eminent Filaria, Medicine, Microbiology specialist and popular science writer Dr Dwijesh Kumar Panda will receive the Kalinga Samman for 2016. He has received many awards and felicitations in his long medical career. He has also written many popular science books in Odia and English.

For the year 2015, eminent metallurgist and educationist, Prof Prafulla Kumar Jena has been selected to receive the award. He is a popular science writer. He was also the Director General of CSIR and regularly contributes science articles in daily newspapers and science magazines.

Kalinga Foundation Trust, Bhubaneswar has instituted the Kalinga Samman for popularisation of science from 2010. The prize is presented annually to an eminent scientist of Odisha.
The prize carries a cash award of Rs 1 lakh, a memento and a citation, which will be presented by the Kalinga Foundation Trust on a day of national importance. The prize winner is selected by a three-member jury of eminent
scientists and final decision of for award of the prize will be taken by the management of the Kalinga Foundation Trust.
