Berhampur: A dreaded criminal was arrested after an encounter with police at Jhadankuli under Sadar police limits in Ganjam district late on Friday.
The criminal identified as Mohan Rao is allegedly involved in more than 17 criminal cases.
According to sources, the police, who received a tip-off regarding Mohan’s presence in the area, laid a trap to nab him. On seeing the cops, he hurled bombs at the raiding team. The police party retaliated and bullets struck him on both legs. He was admitted to a local hospital for treatment.
Sadar police station inspector-in-charge and sub-inspector were also injured during the encounter.
Earlier on Friday, a dreaded criminal, Silu Chhotray, was arrested after a brief exchange of fire with police at Chhanagiri forest under Jankia police limits in Khurda district. He was involved in Odisha Gramya Bank’s Sarangadhara branch loot case in Nayagarh district on April 6, police sources informed.
