Berhampur: As part of its ongoing crackdown on anti-socials, the city police on Sunday targeted one more hardcore criminal in an encounter on Sunday.
The injured, identified as Rakesh Panda alias Manga, has been admitted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital here.
Acting on a tip-off on the presence of Manga near an ice factory in Gosani Nuagaon area on the outskirts of the city, a team of Gosani Nuagaon police led by the IIC Kulamani Sethi raided the area. Seeing the police, Manga tried to escape and opened fire at the police who retaliated in which one bullet hit his left thigh. As he fell down, he was overpowered by the police.
One country-made pistol, three rounds of live ammunition and a Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle were seized from his possession.
The encounter took place at 10.10 PM.
A resident of Bada Sahi under Gosani Nuagaon police station limits, Manga is wanted in as many as 10 cases including dacoity, bombing, murder and attempt to murder pending in different police stations including the Government Railway Police, Santanu Kumar Das, Additional SP, Berhampur, told media persons.
