Berhampur: In a major raid, police arrested a dreaded criminal after an encounter inside Kakudia forest near Mathura under Polasara Police Station limits in Odisha’s Ganjam district in the morning on Tuesday.
Acting on a tip-off about the presence of Buchi Patra and his two associates inside Kakudia forest, a team of police led by Polasara IIC Tapaswini Kar raided the forest. Seeing the police, the trio opened fire to which police immediately retaliated.
During the encounter, Buchi sustained bullet injuries in his two legs. He was later admitted to a government hospital at Polasara.
Police seized one mouser, two live bullets and a bike from his possession.
Police also arrested his two associates Lipu alias Ajit Nayak and Panda alias Akshaya Nayak.
According to police, Buchi has over 30 criminal cases, like extortion and robbery at different police stations in Ganjam district.
The trio had recently hurled bombs at a country liquor shop at Mathura.
It may be mentioned that the Director General of Police (DGP) RP Sharma, during his recent tour to Ganjam district had highly praised the efforts of the police in dealing with the anti-social elements and directed the police to continue their operation.
