Nayagarh: A dreaded criminal was injured in an encounter with police near Bapuji forest area of Darpanarayanpur village under Ranpur police limits in Odisha’s Nayagarh district on Friday night.
The injured criminal, identified as Rabi Dora, was rushed to the district headquarters hospital and later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
Talking to mediapersons, Nayagarh SP Ashish Kumar Singh said acting on a tip-off on the presence of Dora in Darparanayanpur, a team of Ranpur police, led by IIC Girija Shankar Rath, raided the area. Sensing trouble, Dora opened fire on the police in which the IIC sustained bullet injuries in his left hand. Following which, the cops retaliated. Dora fell off his bike after a bullet hit his right leg.
Police later seized a Mauser and five live bullets from his possession.
The SP further said Dora was the prime accused in the murder of an autorickshaw driver Shraban Kumar Barik at Rajasunakhala in the district on February 26 this year. The criminal had been on the run since then. The district police had formed four teams to nab him, he added.
Besides, Dora has several cases of murder and dacoity pending against him in different police stations in Nayagarh, Khurda, Bhubaneswar and Bargarh, he informed.
