Dreaded Criminal Injured In Police Encounter At Paradip

Paradip: A dreaded criminal was injured in an encounter with police
near Plastic Park at Paradip late on Tuesday.

The criminal was identified as Suryakant Swain. He was admitted to SCB
Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

During patrolling, a police team spotted Swain and two of his
associates and tried to intercept them. Seeing the cops, the trio
hurled bombs at them in a bid to escape. The police personnel
retaliated back by opening fire following which Swain sustained bullet
injury in his leg while his associates managed to flee, a police
officer said.

A pistol, bullets and a bomb were seized from the criminal’s possession.
A number of criminal cases are pending against Suryakant at different
police stations of the state.
