Sambalpur: Dreaded criminal Jacob was injured in an encounter with police in Odisha’s Sambalpur on Saturday.
Speaking to the media, Sambalpur SP said a liquor shop under Sambalpur Sadar police station was looted late Friday night. During investigation, police came to know about involvement of a gang of 10-12 criminals in the loot.
On the basis of reliable information about the gang, a police team conducted raid at Kenghati on the outskirts of the city. On sighting the police, the gang fired at them. As police fired back in retaliation, Jacob was hit by a bullet. He sustained bullet injury on the leg and admitted to VSS Medical College and Hospital at Burla.
The police team arrested 11 members of the gang besides Jacob and seized 2 guns, 4 knives and 2 iron rods besides Rs 3.2 lakh in cash from their possession.
The SP said of the arrested persons, 10 belong to Koraput and Rayagada districts while 2 are from Andhra Pradesh. Jacob has 10-12 cases pending in different police stations in Koraput district, he added.
