Cuttack: The Commissionerate Police on Wednesday arrested the girlfriend of Mohammad Shakeel while demanding extortion money from a businessman.
It may be recalled that on December 14, in a video message from his mobile phone inside the Choudwar Circle Jail to the owner of Anand Sports in Buxi Bazar area in Cuttack, Shakeel had demanded extortion money of Rs 10 lakh. Acting on the businessman’s complaint, the police had arrested Shakeel’s father and his four associates on Tuesday.
Later, on the basis of the statement of the arrested accused during interrogation, a joint squad of the Commissionerate Police and a special squad arrested Shakeel’s girlfriend Nasreen Khan from Choudwar on Wednesday.
According to police, Nasreen, who is a law student in a well-known institute, deals with the collection of extortion money on behalf of Shakeel. She is also in charge of the illegal gun trading.
Nasreen had come under police scanner during her recent visit to Choudwar Jail to meet her boyfriend. Police later monitored her movement by tracking her mobile phone.
