Berhampur: Dreaded criminal Santosh Behera was injured in an encounter with police at Poirasi in Ganjam district late Tuesday night, police sources said.
Behera sustained bullet injuries on his left leg. He is undergoing treatment at MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.
Rambha, Hinjili and Sheragada police conducted a joint operation to arrest Behera and his associate Bijay
Maharana at around 1 am. In a gun-battle between police and criminals, the inspector-in-charge of Hinjili police station and a constable were injured. While police apprehended Santosh, Bijay managed to escape. The duo were allegedly involved in extortion and criminal intimidation of local businessmen.
Police seized two live cartridges, five bombs, a revolver, two motorcycles and two mobile phones from Behera’s possession.
