Bhawanipatna: In tragic road mishap, a driver was charred to death after two trucks collided and caught fire near Bhawanipatna town in Odisha’s Kalahandi district early on Saturday.
According to sources, a coal laden truck dashed against another truck loaded with rice bags from the rear side near Pastikudi village under Bhawanipatna Sadar police limits. The collision was so severe that both trucks soon burst into flames.
A few locals present near the spot tried to rescue one of the drivers, who was trapped inside the truck. But unfortunately, despite their best efforts, he could not be saved and was burnt alive.
After a few minutes, police and firefighters too rushed to the scene and managed to douse the fire, but by then both vehicles were almost reduced to ashes. The driver of another truck reportedly fled the scene after the collision.
It is suspected that the mishap occurred either due to reckless driving, or poor visibility caused by dense fog in the early hours.
Police said the identity of the deceased driver was yet to be ascertained. A probe has been launched into the incident.
