Jagatsinghpur: In a tragic incident, a man was charred to death after the car he was driving suddenly caught fire at Paradip in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district.
As per preliminary information, the mishap took place on Chandikhole-Paradip State Highway 53 late on Tuesday when the car was proceeding towards Paradip.
The vehicle suddenly caught fire and went up in flames in the middle of the road near Pitambarpur village in Biswali. Locals said the driver of the vehicle was burnt alive as he was unable to move out of the vehicle.
On being informed, fire service personnel from Kujang rushed to the spot to douse the flames but by then, the car was completely gutted.
A team of police personnel also reached the site and initiated efforts to ascertain the cause of the fire. The body was recovered and sent for postmortem.
An investigation into the incident has been launched and police are trying to identify the deceased after getting to know the car registration number which was from Cuttack, sources said.
