Bhubaneswar: Two staff members of a private bus were injured in an alleged attack by those of another bus in Odisha capital on Sunday morning.
According to sources, the incident took place over departure time of the two buses from Baramunda bus stand in Bhubaneswar. While one bus, Babamani, was about to leave for Berhampur, another bus, Dildar, started to move for Chhatrapur at the same time.
As the two buses did not leave give way to each other, an argument ensued between their drivers and conductors. They blamed each other over time of departure.
With no staff ready to relent, the argument escalated into heated exchange of words. In a fit of rage, a staff member of Dildar bus brought out a sharp weapon and allegedly assaulted the driver and conductor of Babamani inside the bus stand.
The staff of other buses rushed the critically injured driver and conductor, who were profusely bleeding, to Capital Hospital in the city.
On being informed, a team from Bharatpur police station went to the spot and brought the situation under control. However, by the time the assaulters had fled. The police have reportedly detained a few persons for questioning.
The sources said lack of any security arrangement or presence of police in the bus stand lead to such incident almost regularly.
