Driver, Conductor Suspended In Odisha For Forcing Injured Woman To Get Off Bus

Rourkela: A driver and conductor of a bus under Mukhyamantri Bus Seva have been suspended in Odisha’s Sundargarh district for allegedly forcing an injured 65-year-old woman to alight from the vehicle instead of helping her.

The elderly woman, Dhanumati Rana, a resident of Deorapara under Birbira panchayat, had fallen inside the moving bus on November 13 when the driver suddenly applied the brakes. The incident took place when she was travelling to Kulta by bus to collect rice. Dhanumati sustained injury in her thigh. Rather than taking her to a hospital, the driver and conductor forced her to get off the bus near her destination.

Some youths saw her writhing around in pain and took her to the Sundargarh district headquarters hospital for treatment.

Confirming the suspension of driver Albert Toppo and conductor Sunil Khersel, district manager of OSRTC Animesh Mohanty said that he had instructed two private firms through which the staff had been hired to take disciplinary action against them, after being informed about the incident.
