Bhubaneswar: Driver of a bus died and over 30 passengers sustained injuries as the vehicle overturned at Surada square near Nuagaon area in Nayagarh district on Friday.
According to sources, the accident took place when the bus overturned after hitting a road divider while en route to Bhubaneswar from Raikia. There were more than 40 passengers in the vehicle. The injured were initially rescued by locals and rushed to Community Health Centre at Daspalla and other state-run health facilities. They were later shifted to district headquarters hospital in Nayagarh after primary treatment. The condition of around eight passengers is stated to be critical.
The SDPO along with a police team has also reached the spot and carrying out the rescue operation as some passengers are suspected to have trapped under the bus. Efforts are also being made to retrieve the body of the driver, crushed under the vehicle, using gas cutter, the sources added.
