Baripada: A truck driver died as the vehicle fell off an under-construction bridge in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district on Saturday evening.
According to sources, the incident took place on the under-construction bridge on National Highway-18 near Bombay Chhak under Jharpokharia police limits in the district. While the truck driver was going from Keonjhar to Kolkata on the NH, he drove straight to the bridge and fell off into the ditch on the other side. Though the locals rushed to his rescue, the driver died on the spot, the sources added.
They alleged that no diversion notice or road mark was placed before the incomplete bridge to alert the vehicle drivers. Since it was already dark, the driver could not see the half-built bridge and the side road.
Besides, no barricades were put up on the approach road to the bridge. As a result, the truck driver drove on to the NH and fell off at the end of bridge, they added.
