Paralakhemundi: An 108 ambulance, transporting a pregnant woman from Chandragiri Medical Centre to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur, reportedly stopped midway in R Udayagiri, Gajapati district, late on Thursday.
The woman’s husband, Vijay Raita of Kanikipadar village, alleged the driver was drunk, drove recklessly, and then stopped the vehicle. The driver was then found asleep and all efforts to wake him up proved futile, forcing the family to arrange a private vehicle around 1 am to ensure timely medical care.
The hospital in charge, however, denied the intoxication allegation and stated that the driver suddenly fell ill, which caused him to fall asleep and not drive further.
