Cuttack: A driver has been arrested on charges of attempting to sexually assault two minor girls inside the bus of a private English medium school in Odisha’s Cuttack on Wednesday.
According to sources, the driver, employed by a prominent private school, allegedly targeted the two underage students during their routine transport home. The incident took place in a
secluded area under Cantonment police limits. The girls confided in their parents about the traumatic experience, leading to a police complaint.
Acting swiftly, police took the driver into custody for questioning and later arrested him. He was produced before a court shortly thereafter.
This incident has come close on the heels of the arrest of four teachers, including a woman, and a peon of a private English-medium school in Kendrapara district’s Rajkanika area for the alleged repeated sexual assault of a Class VII girl over nearly two years on school premises.
These back-to-back incidents have put school safety under scrutiny, exposing systemic gaps in background verification of staff, supervision of school premises, and secure transportation for students.
