Nayagada: Driver of a private bus was killed and at least 25 passengers sustained injuries after the vehicle dashed against a tree in Odisha’s Nayagada district on Friday.
According to sources the bus from Bhubaneswar was proceeding to Nayagada when the mishap took place at Baunsia Pada under the jurisdiction of Itamati police station.
The driver, identified as Niranjan Swain of Pichukuli village in Khordha district, was crushed to death in the accident.
All the injured passengers were rescued and admitted to the Nayagada District Headquarters Hospital. The condition of five injured persons was stated to be critical.
Fire brigade personnel, police and local residents reached the spot and rescued the passengers from the damaged bus.
The Sub-Collector also visited the hospital and enquired about the health condition of the injured.
