Driver Sets Ganja-Laden Car On Fire After Tyre Burst In Odisha’s Sonepur, Flees

Sonepur: A car, carrying a large consignment of ganja, was allegedly set on fire by its driver after a tyre burst at Binka in Odisha’s Sonepur district on Saturday.

The incident took place around 6.45 am near Binka Nua Bazaar. The unregistered vehicle was completely destroyed in the fire.

According to sources, the driver panicked when he found that the vehicle had a flat tyre while crossing the market stretch. As passers-by began to gather around the vehicle, he doused it with fuel and set it ablaze to destroy evidence of the illegal trade before fleeing the spot. The vehicle soon went up in flames and was reduced to a charred shell within minutes.

On being informed, the Fire Services team rushed to the spot and doused the flames.

While police have begun an investigation into the incident, preliminary assessment indicate nearly three quintals of ganja was loaded in the car.
