Bhubaneswar: A driver sustained injuries and was left trapped inside his vehicle after his truck rear-ended another goods vehicle on Khandagiri flyover in Bhubaneswar early Tuesday morning.
The incident occurred around 6:30 am on National Highway 16.
According to the driver of the other vehicle, who was transporting cell phone towers from Kolkata to Tamil Nadu, his truck was moving at a slow speed of around 30 km/h when the speeding truck slammed into it from behind. It is suspected that the driver of the trailing vehicle may have fallen asleep at the wheel.
The impact caused severe damage to the rear of the front vehicle, destroying four of its tyres, while driver of the rear truck was pinned inside the mangled cabin. Three PCR teams along with Fire Services teams rushed to the site and rescued the driver, who was then rushed to AIIMS Bhubaneswar in an ambulance.
Local police arrived at the scene shortly after the incident to restore traffic flow on the flyover and clear the damaged vehicles. Further investigation into the accident is underway.
