Nuapada: A drone was used to deliver pension at a divyang person’s doorstep in Odisha’s Nuapada district, displaying the utility of technology for public service.
Sources said Hetaram Satnami, a resident of Bhutkapada village under Bhaleswar Panchayat in the district, is a beneficiary of the state government’s Madhu Babu Pension Yojana.
However, being differently abled, Hetaram finds it difficult to go to the Panchayat office to receive his pension as it is located around 2 km away from the village.
In a unique method to tackle Hetaram’s difficulty, local Sarpanch Saroj Agarwal on Saturday engaged a drone to send Satnami’s pension to his house. A visibly elated Hetaram received the pension from the device as the villagers experienced the unique service with excitement.
Expressign happiness over the development, an elated Hetaram said the delivery of pension at the doorstep has brought a big relief for him as the Panchayat office is over two km from the villae, which is surrounded by forest.
The Sarpanch reportedly said that he came to know about the difficulty faced by Hetaram’s to visit the Panchayat Office for collecting the pension as he happens to be a divyang. Therefore, an order was placed for a drone and the pension was sent to Hetaram using the device.
