Khurda: A drug peddler was arrested after he assaulted two police personnel in a village of Odisha’s Khurda district on Wednesday.
According to sources, a youth, who himself is a drug addict, was selling brown sugar in Sarapari village and nearby areas under Jankia police station in the district for the last few days.
Brandishing a knife, he used to threaten the villagers, who opposed the drug peddling, of taking their lives. Under the influence of drugs, he attempted to attack some villagers on the day. Frightened by his activities, the villagers informed the police.
A team from Jankia police station went to the village and tried to nab the youth. But the youth not only threatened the police but also attacked two constables with the knife. However, the police team managed to overpower the youth and arrested him.
The injured constables were admitted to the community health centre (CHC) at Malipada. The youth was being questioned and necessary action would be taken against him, said IIC of the police station.
