Jajpur: A dentist has been arrested for allegedly running a drug peddling racket in Odisha’s Jajpur town.
The accused has been identified as Nigamananda Khatua. He has a clinic at Mahabir Nagar in the town.
According to sources, Jajpur town police apprehended two person – Sandip Kumar Mallick and Rakhyakar Dikshit – while selling brown sugar near Sundarei Muhan Chhak on Wednesday. They named the dentist during interrogation, who was then arrested. Police also seized 25.2 gm of brown sugar, worth around Rs 2.5 lakh, seized from them.
Jajpur SDPO Satyabrat Lenka said that the duo used to trade in brown sugar in the town area while the dentist was the kingpin of the drug-trafficking network. “The dentist used to procure the drugs and supply those to these peddlers in small quantities. The trio will be forwarded to court today,” he added.
