Bhubaneswar: In spite of the drive against drink and drive by the Commissionerate Police of the twin cities in Odisha, a car driver, in an inebriated condition, hit a woman and her daughter in Cuttack city on Thursday.
As per reports, a youth driving a red colour Suzuki Wagon R came in high speed from Gadi Gada Chhak towards Satichoura Chhak in the afternoon. Since the driver was reportedly in inebriated condition, he lost control over the steering and hit the woman and her daughter who were standing on roadside to catch a bus.
After hitting them, the car dashed against a two-wheeler parked there before barging into a shop. While the woman, who sustained critical injuries in the mishap was rushed to a private hospital while her daughter escaped with minor injuries.
The locals caught hold of the car’s driver and handed him over to police. The police have seized the car and registered a case in this regard.
It may be noted the Commissionerate Police had earlier warned the people against drink and drive before launching a drive to nab such drivers. It had stated that those found driving after alcohol consumption would face jail term.
