Sundargarh: Four persons were injured in a series accident, involving an SUV, car, 3 motorcycles and a cycle, at Sankara locality on Mission Road under Sundargarh Town police limits in Odisha.
According to sources, a speeding SUV with ‘police’ sticker on it rammed into motorcycles, a cycle and a car, which overturned under the impact of the collision, before crashing into a stationary truck. While three persons escaped with minor bruises, the cyclist, identified as Parshuram Behera (60), sustained severe head injury in the accident.
The SUV driver has been identified as Ramesh Sharma, a local barber. He runs a saloon near the NTPC medical college. He was reportedly driving in an inebriated condition. The locals caught hold of him and thrashed him before handing him over to police.
Sources further said that Ramesh had borrowed the SUV from a policeman. Town police have initiated a probe into the accident and the circumstances under which the cop had given his vehicle to the barber.
