Dhenkanal: A man allegedly burnt his wife alive under the influence of alcohol in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district on Sunday.
As per reports, the man, identified as Niranjan Das of Gopapur village under Kankadahada police station in the district is a habitual drinker. He used to physically torture his wife Rangabati Das under the influence of alcohol regularly.
Niranjan came to his house drunk on the day and started beating Rangabati while nobody was around. Later, he poured kerosene on her and set her on fire.
On coming to know about the incident, Niranjan’s son Bikash Das went to see his mother, only to find her charred to death. He then went to Kankadahada police station and lodged a complaint against his father.
Speaking to media persons, Bikash said, “My father regularly came to house in inebriated condition and physically abused my mother even in my presence. I somehow managed to protect my mother whenever I was present in the house. But today, while I was away, he (father) killed my mother by setting fire to her.”
Meanwhile, the police have seized the body and sent it for post-mortem. They have registered a case and detained Niranjan for questioning.
