New Delhi: Alcohol lovers will have to do without their favourite liquor on a number of days over the next six weeks.
Besides public holidays for different festivals, Delhi will go ‘dry’ due to Lok Sabha polls as well.
With polling in Delhi to take place on May 25, and he Aam Aadmi Party-headed government has declared no alcohol from 6 pm on April 24 to 6 pm on April 26, and also on June 4 when votes will be counted.
Check the list of dry days during April-June, 2024:
* April 11 — Id-ul-Fitr
* April 17 — Ram Navami
* April 21 — Mahavir Jayanti
* May 23 — Buddha Purnima
* June 17 – Id-ul-Zuha (Bakrid)
* May 24 (6 pm) to May 26 (6 pm) — Lok Sabha polls
* June 4 — Lok Sabha vote counting.
Elections will be held in seven phases across India, from April 19 to June 1.
“The licensees shall not be entitled to any compensation on account of any changes effected in the above list. All the licensees shall exhibit this order at some conspicuous place of their licensed premises. The business premises of a licensee shall be kept closed on dry day,” the Delhi Excise department orderstated.
The Delhi Excise commissioner has the authority to designate dry days for events such as religious festivals and the commemorations of significant figures in the country.
