Bhubaneswar: Amid the continuing thunderstorm activity, the day temperature in Odisha is likely to rise by by 3-5 degree Celsius during the next 3-4 days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Monday.
Weather experts have attributed it to enhanced flow of dry northerly-northwesterly winds towards the state following the landfall of Severe Cyclonic Storm Remal, which crossed the Bangladesh and adjoining West Bengal Coasts between Sagar Islands and Khepupara close to southwest of Mongla with wind speed of 110 to 120 kmph gusting to 135 kmph last night. Though some places in coastal region like Balasore, Chandbali, Bhadrak and Paradip received rains under its influence, interior areas saw an increase in the mercury levels.
The storm, which sucked up moisture from the air, could also trigger thundershower activities in the state.
The weather agency has forecast light to moderate rain/thundershower in Balasore, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Malkangiri, Koraput, and Rayagada districts on May 27, Nuapada, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, and Bargarh on May 28 and North Coastal Odisha ,Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar during the subsequent 3 days.
Light to moderate rain/thundershower may occur at a few places in the state on June 1-2.
The IMD further stated that conditions are likely to become favourable for Monsoon onset over Kerala during the next 5 days.
Meanwhile, Remal, which weekend into cyclonic storm this morning, is expected to move north-northeastwards, and gradually lose strength and turn into Deep Depression by Monday afternoon. Heavy rainfall warning continues for coastal and eastern districts of Gangetic West Bengal adjacent to Bangladesh, eastern districts of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Mizoram, Manipur and Tripura on May 27-28.
