Bhubaneswar: Two persons, including a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), were killed in a road mishap in Panikoili area of Odisha’s Jajpur district on Sunday.
The deceased DSP has been identified as Balaram Nayak, who was posted in Balasore district. His relative was also killed in the accident.
Sources said the mishap took place while Nayak along with his relative was returning to his native place at Ghatagaon in Keonjhar district from Balasore in a car in the afternoon.
As they were proceeding, a speeding truck rammed into Nayak’s car on National Highway-16 near Chandpur Square under the jurisdiction of Panikoili police station in Jajpur.
The DSP and his relative sustained grievous injuries in the accident. Locals rescued the two and rushed them to Maharaj Jajati Keshari Medical College and Hospital in a critical condition. However, both were declared dead on arrival by the doctors.
After getting information about the mishap, Jajpur Superintendent of Police (SP) Yashpratap Shrimal visited the hospital and enquired about the incident.
