Jajpur: The police on Thursday arrested a dumper driver for allegedly killing a woman and her daughter by running over them in Odisha’s Jajpur district.
According to sources, the woman, Sritika Chakravarthy and her daughter Sonali Chakravarthy of Sukindagad were returning home on a scooter from Mahakalpada in Kendrapada district on National Highway 53 when the dumper overtook them at Adhagada and stopped at a distance.
As Sritika and Sonali escaped from a mishap narrowly, they went to the driver and warned him for reckless driving. Agitated by this, the driver, identified as Ashok Swain, was engaged in an argument. As they were engaged in heated exchange of words, the locals intervened and pacified them.
Later, while the mother and daughter were going to their house, the dumper driver chased them and ran over them on the road. Both Sritika and Sonali died on the spot.
On being informed, a team from Sukindagad police station went to the spot and sent the bodies for post-mortem. They also took the dumper driver into custody. On coming to know about the whole incident from investigation, the police arrested the driver and forwarded him to court.
Sritika was working at panchayat office in Sukinda while Sonali was an employee of the Union Bank of India at Duburi.
