Guwahati: Odisha FC made a roaring start to the season as they walloped NorthEast United FC 6-0 in the Durand Cup here on Wednesday.
Odisha FC scored three goals in either half, with Jerry Mawihmingthanga netting a brace while Nandakumar Sekhar, Isak Vanlalruatfela Ralte, Diego Mauricio and Thoiba Singh Moirangthem scoring one apiece.
A quarter of an hour into the game, Jerry opened the scoring, blasting home after being fed by Perdo Martin.
Nandakumar doubled Odisha’s advantage with a brilliant goal in the 26th minute, curling the ball past the NEUFC custodian from the edge of the box.
It was 3-0 in the 38th minute as Jerry finished off a fine move involving Perdo and Nandakumar.
NorthEast held on over half an hour after change of ends, before Odisha FC scored three more in the final 10 minutes.
Isak made good use of a fine corner, diverting the ball into the goal scored with a glancing header.
Diego then got into the scoresheet with a fantastic free-kick which gave the rival goalkeeper no chance.
Thoiba completed the rout in the first half of stoppage time.
Odisha FC will face Kerala Blasters on August 23, followed by matches against Sudeva Delhi (Aug 29) and Army Green (Sept 4).
