Cuttack: Puja committees of the twin cities, Cuttack Mahanagar Shanti Committee and Purvanchal Shanti Committee at an emergency meeting on Saturday decided to appeal to chief minister Naveen Patnaik to withdraw the restriction on Durga idol’s height.
The meeting held at OCA conference hall in Barabati Stadium, here witnessed uproarious scenes at the beginning when former BJD MLA Prabhat Biswal made statement on the government’s decision on the idol height. Later, the situation was normalised following intervention of senior members of the committees.
The representatives of the committees discussed the restrictions on Durga puja imposed by the state government in view of COVID pandemic. Former BJD MLA and secretary of Cuttack Mahanagar Puja Committee Pravat Tripathy and MP Bhartruhari Mahatab were also present.
According to sources, the committees took a decision to appeal to the chief minister by September 16 to reconsider the restrictions and would wait for the government’s response till September 17. The committees will decide next course of action depending on the government decision after September 17.
