Cuttack: For the first time, the idols of Goddess Durga will be connected with Global Positioning System (GPS) during immersion procession at the end of Dussehra in Odisha’s Cuttack city.
This was revealed by Twin City Police Commissioner Saumendra Priyadarshi on Tuesday.
Speaking to media persons after a meeting with puja committees and Shanti Committee of Cuttack on the preparation for Dussehara celebration, Priyadarshi said the Commissionerate Police has taken the decision of GPS connectivity to keep a track of the movement ofidols during the immersion procession.
This is perceived as a step to ensure preventing any untoward incident during the procession in the communally sensitive city. Usually, the procession is carried out in a grand manner with the puja committees bursting crackers and playing loud music through the lanes of the city till late into night.
Priyadarshi also said the Commissionerate Police will take the initiative of felicitating the most disciplined puja committee this year.
