Cuttack: A gigantic decorative light gate erected for Durga Puja celebrations at College Square in Cuttack to partially collapse on Wednesday afternoon.
According to sources, the structure, built with bamboo poles in front of Ravenshaw University, was reported to be 30 to 40 feet in height. It started tilting in the morning after a hook from passing pick-up van got entangle in the gate, following which area was evacuated by the Twin City Commissionerate Police, before giving way later in the day as heavy rain and strong winds lashed the city.
A puja committee member said they will file an FIR against the vehicle with police and submit CCTV footage of the incident.
The traffic and pedestrian movement along the busy road stretch have been restricted. The site will remain sealed till the gate’s structural components are dismantled, the sources added.
