Cuttack: A stunning 2.5 quintal Chandi Medha (silver tableau) will greet devotees at Jobra in Odisha’s Cuttack city this Durga Puja.
Crafted with exquisite filigree work and featuring a new peacock design, the medha is not only a testament to Cuttack’s famed silver artistry but also marks 75th year of Jobra Durga Mandir Parichalana Committee’s legacy.
According to reports, a whopping 3.5 crore has been spent on the 17-ft high and 15-ft wide silver tableau executively crafted by noted artist Krushna Prusty and his team from Alisha Bazaar area over a period of six months.
Besides Jobra, Maa Mangala Puja Committee at Gopaljew Lane in Matha Sahi is set to enter the elite Chandi Medha club this year, taking the total to 34 in the Millennium City.
The Committee, which has been worshipping idols of Hara-Parvati, has set up a 13-ft high, 12-ft wide Chandi Medha, featuring intricate silver motifs of peacocks, paan leaves and amba kasi among others, using around one quintal of silver. It has been crafted by Silver filigree artisan Pradeep Kumar Prusty is crafting it with the help of five co-artisans, who began the work in April last year.
Last year, Chandi Medha at Tulasipur was the new addition to Cuttack’s Durga Puja celebrations. Similarly, Choudhury Bazaar, one of the oldest puja committees in the city, added two new gold ‘kalikas’ (large floral motifs) on the top of the silver tableau while Ranihat enhanced the design of its 25-ft high and 15-ft wide tableau, considered one of the biggest and heaviest among all Chandi Medhas in the city, with 10 kg of silver.
