New Delhi: Days after Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced a Leave Travel Concession (LTC) cash voucher scheme, the Cabinet on Wednesday approved bonus for central government employees just ahead of Dussehra.
Announcing the good news, Union minister Prakash Javadekar informed that over 30 lakh central government employees will benefit.
“The Union Cabinet approves productivity-linked bonus and non-productivity linked Bonus for 2019-2020. More than 30 lakh non-gazetted employees will be benefited by the bonus announcement and total financial implication will be ₹ 3,737 crores,” Javadekar said on Wednesday after attending a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The bonus will be disbursed in a single instalment before Vijaya Dashami, Javadekar said, adding that the government hopes this will encourage spending and boost the economy.
Productivity-linked bonus (PLB) for 2019-2020 will be given to 16.97 lakh non-gazetted employees of commercial establishments like Railways, Postal department, Defence, EPFO and ESIC.
On the other hand, non-PLB or ad-hoc bonus will be given to non-gazetted Central government employees, which will benefit 13.70 lakh people.
