Bhubaneswar: Star sprinter Dutee Chand is soon going to have a track named after her in the Odisha capital.
Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) and Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) will soon inaugurate a ‘Dutee Chand Athletic Track’, KIIT and KIIS founder Dr Achyuta Samanta said on Tuesday.
Felicitating the sprinter, Dr Samanta said Dutee is the pride of the nation as she brought laurels to India recently by winning a gold medal in the 100-meter race at 30th Summer Universiade 2019 in Napoli, Italy.
She is the first ever Indian woman to bag a gold medal in 100-meter race in a World Athletic meet. Dutee clocked 11.32 seconds to achieve this landmark.
Dutee will also head the proposed KIIT Athletic Academy.
On her part, Dutee thanked Samanta and said he and KIIT proved lucky for her.
“What I am today, it is only due to the support of KIIT and Dr Samanta. I am confident that I will bring more laurels to the country as well as Odisha, KIIT and KISS in the coming days,” she said.
