Dutee Chand Sizzles On Track Again With New National Record

India’s fastest woman Dutee Chand bettered her personal best by 0.04 seconds to register a new national record of 11.22 seconds in 100-metre sprint heats at the National Open Athletics Championships at Ranchi on Friday.

This timing has got the ace athlete from Odisha closer to 2020 Olympics qualification mark of 11.15 seconds.

Dutee had clocked 11.26 sec at the Asian Athletics Championships in April this year. This was also the previous national record in the women’s 100m event, which she jointly held with Rachita Mistry.

The athlete from Odisha had drawn flak after finishing seventh in the third heat of the recent World Athletics Championships by clocking 11.48 seconds, which was well below her season best, with many assuming it to be the end of the road for her. However, as always she has again proved her detractors wrong.
