Bhubaneswar: The deputy ranger in Kalahandi district, who was found in possession of unaccounted money of Rs 1.5 lakh by Vigilance sleuths on Thursday, was arrested and forwarded to court on Friday.
The Vigilance officials had intercepted Nrutyaraj Majhi, Deputy Ranger, Mobile Party under DFO, North Division, Bhawanipatna near Laxmipur while he was returning on his motorcycle from Bhawanipatna to his native village Laxmipur.
During interception, Majhi was found in possession of Rs 1.5 lakh which he could not account for satisfactorily. The cash and his motorcycle were seized. Subsequently, the Vigilance officials conducted a search in his residential house and brick factory at Laxmipur.
During the search, Majhi and his family members were found in possession of two double-storey buildings worth Rs 60 lakh, fly ash brick factory worth Rs 35 lakh, a temple and two asbestos houses worth Rs 7 lakh, one tractor, one four-wheeler,
two two-wheelers and one concrete mixture machine.
Koraput Vigilance has registered a case in this connection against Majhi and further investigation is on.
