E-Court Project: Judiciary To Go Paperless Soon, Says Law Minister Kiren Rijiju

New Delhi: Union Minister for Law and Justice Kiren Rijiju on Tuesday said the Indian judiciary will soon go paperless adding that he told law officers that they need to go paperless. The law minister said he had a detailed meeting to discuss how the e-courts project could take shape, India Today reported.

The e-courts project aims to transform the judicial system of the country through the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) enablement of courts.

Soon I will meet the Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud and a team from the Information technology ministry, said Rijiju. He further said that he requested the CJI to make things clear before he demits as the e-committee’s chairperson. Kiren Rijiju said the total number of pending cases is about to reach 5 crore. He lamented the large number of pending cases and said the process and platforms for cases need to be put into a single-window system. He said under the current state of things, achieving a synchronised system takes so much time “for want of some papers,” the report added.
