Berhampur: To make various services available to the people at their doorstep in a decentralised manner, south Odisha city of Berhampur will soon have separate offices in all the 42 wards.
As per the decision of the Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC), there will be ward officers for all the wards. Women Self Help Groups (SHGs) will be entrusted with the task of managing the affairs of different wards.
BeMC has invited Expression of Interest (EOI) from the SHGs for the purpose as the ward offices are proposed to be made operational before January 26, 2023, sources said.
According to BeMC Commissioner J Sonal, a large number of people from far off places have to visit the corporation office for different works and they face several problems. For the benefit of the people, the state government has issued instruction for opening offices in every ward in the urban body area.
While every SHG selected for managing the work in a ward will be given Rs 2000 per month, one of the members will be given the responsibility of coordinator who will be paid Rs 10,000 per month. The coordinator is required to be conversant with official works.
Many local problems will be solved in the ward offices, while services relating to various allowances, Aadhaar cards, tax deposit, sanitation and other civic issues can be settled. Local corporator will oversee the affairs of the ward office and people will be able to get all services at their doorsteps, Sonal added.
