Ease Of Living Report: Smart City Bhubaneswar Tops In Citizen Perception Survey

Bhubaneswar: Smart City Bhubaneswar has been ranked fourth among top 10 Livable Capital Cities in India.

As for the Citizen Perception Survey, the Temple City tops the list with a score of 94.8 out of 100.

The Ease of Living Index Report, 2020, issued by New Delhi-based Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), has rated Bengaluru as the No. 1 Livable Capital City in India, followed by Chennai, Shimla and Bhubaneswar.

According to BMC press release, four parameters were used to determine the score on Ease of Living Index — quality of life, economic ability, sustainability and citizens’ perceptions. The scoring in all four parameters was on a scale of 100.

However, four capital cities — Dispur, Daman, Amaravati and Kolkata – were not ranked in the survey.

While the Odisha capital was the top-scoring capital city under Citizen Perception Survey, Bhubaneswar pushed cities like Mumbai and Delhi behind under Ease of Living Index.

Bhubaneswar scored 59.85 in Ease of Living Index, whereas Mumbai achieved 58.23 and Delhi 57.56. Bengaluru, Chennai and Shimla were above Bhubaneswar with scores of 66.7, 62.61 and 60.90, respectively.

The Ease of Living Index Report measures ease of living across Quality of Life, Economic Ability and Sustainability. The index is further strengthened by a fourth pillar, Citizen Perception Survey, which aims to obtain and incorporate views of the citizens regarding the services provided by their city administration.

“We will be doing much more with the participation of the citizens to provide better living standards for all our citizens and also to project city’s performances at all the fronts to make its stand more national and global in future,” said BMC Commissioner Sanjay Kumar Singh.

Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited had, in collaboration with BMC and BDA, carried out a massive drive by organizing campaigns through educational institutions, kiosks at Park Utsav venues, talk shows organized at city-based FM radio stations, social media campaigns, SMS campaigns, volunteers carrying placards during February 2020 to motivate the public, slum dwellers’ involvement through Peer Leaders (Pragati Sathis) and hoardings at strategic locations to boost the Ease of Living Citizens Perception Survey across the city. Citizens responded enthusiastically by participating in great numbers.
