Bhubaneswar: In a joint raid, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the Food Safety officials seized polythene bags from some roadside eateries and shops at Priyadarshini Market near CRP Square in the city on Wednesday.
Acting on a tip-off, the joint team raided the Rainbow Hotel and Restaurant and checked the food items stored in the fridge. The team did not find any stale food. Later, they raided a grocery shop and another selling puja items and seized several packets of single-use polythene bags. The team also seized banned polythene bags from a mutton shop and three roadside food joints and collected fine from them.
The state government, which had imposed a complete ban on single-use plastic items in six major cities of Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Berhampur, Rourkela, Sambalpur and Puri on October 2 last year, had extended it to the remaining parts of the state from October 2 this year.
