Bhubaneswar: In a joint raid, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the Food Safety officials seized polythene bags from some roadside eateries and shops a
t Priyadarshini Market near CRP Square in the city on Wednesday.
Acting on a tip-off, the joint team raided the Rainbow Hotel and Restaurant and checked the food items stored in the fridge. The team did not find any stale food. Later, they raided a grocery shop and another selling puja items and seized several packets of single-use polythene bags. The team also seized banned polythene bags from a mutton shop and three roadside food joints and collected fine from them.
The state government, which had imposed a complete ban on single-use plastic items in six major cities of Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Berhampur, Rourkela, Sambalpur and Puri on October 2 last year, had extended it to the remaining parts of the state from October 2 this year.
