New Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) is likely to announce the dates for Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur at 3.30 pm on Saturday.
The Commission has convened a press conference where it is likely to announce the scheduled dates of Assembly polls. “The press conference will be held in Vigyan Bhawan at 3.30 pm on January 8,” a release of ECI said.
While the term of the UP Assembly is ending in May, those of other four Assemblies will be completed on different dates in March. Of the five poll-bound states, the BJP is in power in Goa, Manipur, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh, while Punjab has Congress government.
It may be noted that the ECI had held a meeting with the Health Ministry on the COVID situation in the five states last week.
