Bhubaneswar: The Election Commission of India has enhanced the existing election expenditure limit for candidates.
A three-member Committee comprising Harish Kumar, Umesh Sinha and Chandra Bhusan Kumar recommended revision in the election expenditure limit.
Acting on the recommendations, the election expenditure ceiling has been hiked as follows:
In Assembly constituencies from the existing Rs 20 lakh to Rs 28 lakh and from Rs 28 lakh to Rs 40 lakh, in respective states and Union territories.
For Parliamentary constituencies, the limit has been raised from the current Rs 54 lakh to Rs 75 lakh, and Rs 70 lakh to Rs 95 lakh, the poll panel informed.
The ECI stated in a release that these new figures will be applicable in all the upcoming elections.
