Barbil: Movement of vehicles carrying goods was affected following an economic blockade called by Barbil Bikash Parishad at Barbil town in Keonjhar district on Sunday.
Most business establishments, shops and markets remained closed and vehicular traffic was disrupted with protestors blocking important roads at various places.
Several trains, including Barbil-Puri passenger train, were halted at different stations as hundreds of agitators staged sit-in on tracks.
Members of different social organisations, political parties, intellectuals and women actively participated in the strike.
“The state government and railway department had jointly approved construction of a flyover in the town last year. But it is a matter of regret that nothing has been done yet despite several requests and reminders to the district administration”, a protestor alleged.
