New Delhi: The art work of a 35-year-old peon with the East Coast Railway (ECoR) headquarters in Bhubaneswar has been selected to be the cover of the Railway Ministry’s booklet of achievements.
Shyam Sundar’s painting shows Mahatma Gandhi disembarking a train and people greeting him at the entrance. The booklet highlights the government’s latest project in commemoration of Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary.
The talented railway employee is a graduate in art and craft from Utkal University of Culture, Bhubaneswar. He was first spotted by a Delhi-based ministry official when he won top honours at an inter-railway painting competition recently.
Sundar was felicitated at a press conference chaired by railway minister Piyush Goyal in Delhi on Tuesday and his painting was the cynosure of all eyes.
“The railway minister shook my hand and said that the painting was beautiful. It was a moment of pride for me,” said a beaming Sundar.
