Bhubaneswar: Anticipating a surge in traffic during the summer season, the East Coast Railway (ECoR) has started special economy meals service at nine important stations, including five in Odisha.
The service is available in Khurda Road, Sambalpur, Titilagarh, Balangir and Kantabanji in Odisha and Palasa, Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam railway stations in Andhra Pradesh.
According to ECoR, Indian Railways in collaboration with Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has started the service to provide hygienic meals and snacks at affordable prices to passengers travelling in the unreserved general class coaches. The budget-friendly meals will be available at counters where general second-class (GS) coaches are stationed.
The meals are priced at Rs 20 while those wanting to have a lighter bite, can have a snack meal at Rs 50, ECoR sources said.
Started at about 51 stations last year as a pilot project, the economy meal service is currently available in more than 100 stations and about 150 counters.
