Bhubaneswar: East Coast Railway (ECoR) will receive the prestigious Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant Best Zonal Railway Shield for 2020 for all round performance.
This is for third time that the ECoR will receive the shield for the third time. Earlier it had bagged the shield in 2008-09 and 2015-16.
The annual shield, instituted in the memory of freedom fighter Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant, is given to a zonal Railways, whose performance is adjudged best among all zonal Railways. Railway Minister Piyush Goyal will hand over this shield to ECoR during Railway National Award function, according to a release.
The winner of the award is selected on the basis of loading, revenue and earnings, goods traffic, punctuality, passenger traffic, train accidents per million train KMs, capacity utilisation of repair workshop out-turn, coach performance, energy consumption, use of motive power and railway stock etc.
ECoR loaded 200.85 million tonne freight in 2019-2020 financial year, registering a growth of 4.7% over previous financial year. It will also receive Traffic Transportation shield, Accounts & Financial Management shield and Sales Management shield.
